Columbia's Grass Runway presents new challanges
There are many good reasons to learn to land on a grass runway. Even if a pilot lives and trains in a major city with plenty of paved runways, a grass runway requires different skills.
With a campground next to the grass runway. This airport offers a new destination to flat land pilots.
Come up to the gold country and check out Columbia's grass runway.

February 14, 2012 - Washington, DC – The long overdue FAA reform legislation sponsored by Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John L. Mica (R-FL) was signed into law today.
Today the President signed the conference report for the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (H.R. 658), a bill Mica introduced in the House.
After three and a half years of hard work by many Residential Through The Fence (RTTF) advocates, H.R. 658, the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act containing RTTF preserving language, has passed the House and Senate and sent to President Obama for his signature.
Residential Thought The Fence (RTTF) access is defined as homes with attached or adjacent aircraft hangars with taxiway access to the airport taxiways and runways.
Hangar home owners with RTTF access pay similar use fees as on airport users and support the airport economy with fuel and service purchases.
Tuolumne County Supervisors must now come up with a policy that the FAA will agree upon as an additional fee to use the airport.
"Sad Tall Tale of Groveland International Airport"
Frank J. "Buddy" Jones was a dreamer. Everyone in Groveland up on Highway 120 near Yosemite said so. When people said, "The way to cut down a redwood tree is with a two-man saw," Frank would reply, "There's got to be a better way. Dynamite ought to do the job."
